WHO WE ARE
Farm Journal Foundation is dedicated to achieving global food security by sustaining modern agriculture's leadership role and ability to meet the vital needs of a growing population. Our mission is to bring together stakeholders from across the agricultural spectrum – including students, farmers, industry leaders, and policymakers – to create tangible solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing the food and agricultural value chain today.
We operate as an independent, nonpartisan and nonprofit organization, with a range of interconnected programs that fall under three umbrellas: thought leadership, education, and issue engagement.
THOUGHT LEADERSHIP
Starting at the ground level, our work is built on peer-reviewed research that enables us to develop strong, fact-based positions. We write and commission research papers every year on policy issues ranging from agriculture’s role in fighting climate change to the impact of stagnant U.S. public funding for agricultural research. We build on this research through speaking events, op-eds, coalitions with industry leaders, and more.
EDUCATION
Farm Journal Foundation works to educate students and consumers about agriculture’s role in feeding our growing world. We offer a range of e-learning materials, including interactive videos, interviews with farmers, and classroom teaching guides. We are also working on a new set of curriculum, written to meet Next Generation Science Standards and to be taught in science classrooms, telling the story of food’s journey from Dirt to Dinner.
POLICY ENGAGEMENT
Farmer Ambassadors regularly travel to Washington D.C., to meet with policymakers and discuss the need to support agricultural research and global food and nutrition security issues. Farmer Ambassadors also host national-level policymakers in their home districts on farm tours and demonstrations of university research facilities, creating opportunities for more intimate and deliberate discussion. In addition, our staff drives messages home through a range of meetings and events, including Congressional and staff briefings on Capitol Hill, committee focus groups with farmers, and expert testimony in Congress.
